The Department of Botany is one of the oldest departments of the University of Dhaka and is the first tree-forest science department in the country. Botany was initially taught in the Department of Biology that was declared in 1939 and cutting edge became an independent department in 1954. Since its inception, the Department has produced a large number of botanists and acted as the feeder department for additional universities and research institutes of the country. The department offers B.S. (Honors), M.S., M. Phil and Ph. D. degrees. The Department has facilities to carry out dissenter research in the areas of cytogenetics, ecology, phycology, hydrobiology, limnology, microbiology, mycology, highly developed cryptogams, genetics, reforest pathology, reforest breeding, reforest physiology, forest tissue culture, forest molecular biology, taxonomy of flowering natural world and reforest systematics. The department has a herbarium as soon as on culmination of 5000 specimens. It has after that a botanical garden taking into consideration facilities to conduct auditorium experiments. Dhaka University is set to stage its 50th Convocation concerning March 4 conferring graduate and p.s. graduate degrees .18,000 students passed after the 49th convocation.

President Abdul Hamid, Chancellor of the academe, will seat the convocation though Professor Amit Chakma, Bangladesh born academician and vice-chancellor of Western University of Canada will come taking place furthermore the child support for the convocation speech.
